The new stylish living goes beyond luxury beauty products and big-name designers. Cruelty-free is what's in fashion now.

WHAT IS VEGAN?

The basics are obvious: no meat, eggs, honey, gelatin, etc. But animal byproducts are present in our everyday lives beyond the kitchen. Many vegans ban clothing and personal-care products made with leather, silk and even wool and down, plus any product tested on animals, according to Vegan Action. Visit www.vegan.org to learn more about veganism and easy steps toward living vegan.

FACE FIRST

Beauty company Smashbox has created two eye shadow Palettes for PETA in Earth Mother and In the Wild. The limited-edition shadows are 100-percent vegan and have never been tested on animals. The colors are soft and earthy, and the kit includes a double-ended brush for easy blending. $34 each at Sephora in NorthPark Center and at Galleria Dallas.

FEET FORWARD

Walk on the wild-friendly side in shoes from Simple's Green Toe line. They're made with sustainable materials: jute shoelaces, recycled car-tire soles, cork insoles and bamboo-fabric lining. Some styles are made with wool felt as well, but if you're vegan, you can choose the shoes without it. Women's GT Jane in tendril sunset gold ($85) and men's Stop Global Warming Toepeeka ($65) are light and fun for summer. FEELING FRUITY

DawnWatch Texas -- Still tickets for Dallas Bizarro Baloney Show, Sunday May 21

The following is from Dan Piraro, creator of the wonderful Bizarro cartoon, which appears in 250 newspapers across the world. (See www.Bizarro.com ) I saw and greatly enjoyed his show in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. I know there are still tickets available for the Dallas show and can assure you it would be a fun and animal friendly thing to do with your Sunday night.

Thought you may like to know that the last three performances (probably ever) of The Bizarro Baloney Show take place next week. It's a one-man live comedy show, sort of 21st Century vaudeville variety style, and has a nice-sized section on animal rights and veganism in the middle of it. Since I'll be performing in the Midwest, I can really use the support of some folks who "get it" in the audience. I don't want to be BBQed by a roomful of angry, hormone-laden meat eaters.

If you're in the area of one of these shows, please come and bring a busload of friends. The show is tons of fun and I hang out after to sell and sign books and draw pictures and stuff.
