Just as we were trying to recover from the Mercy for Animals dairy farm video, the superb group Compassion Over Killing (www.cok.net) released, on June 2, shocking video taken inside a chick hatchery in Santa Cruz, California. The local ABC affiliate has covered the story. You can read it, or view it on line at: http://tinyurl.com/24wmkua

The ABC story does not include the most graphic of the video, but the reporter directs viewers to the station's website where they can view it if they choose to.

The undercover video shows adorable ducklings shooting out of machines at high speed, the injured being literally tossed onto the floor by workers and left there to die. Others are left alive to die slowly after being mangled by machines.

As usual, in encouraging people to make conscious choices, I ask those readers who eat chickens, ducks, or eggs to please view the video in order to see a modern hatchery and know more about the industry those food choices now support. For the animals sake, we must not close our eyes. I ask everybody to at least go to the page and view the less graphic version, and to leave a comment. It is important that the station sees an enthusiastic viewer reaction to this type of coverage.

Three time Emmy award winning reporter David Louie covers the technology and business beat in the Bay Area and chose to make this animal cruelty story part of that beat. Please thank him. Positive feedback for coverage of animal issues encourages more such coverage in the future.
