Date: October 12th, 2009

We have come a long way. Tonight, Monday, October 12 at 9pm ET, on the widely watched and thoroughly mainstream CNN show "Larry King Live," we are set to see, "The debate over eating meat." The episode appears to have been was spurred by the recent New York Times story about a woman who was paralyzed after eating a hamburger. (You'll find the DawnWatch alert on that at http://tinyurl.com/yh375qd.) A beef industry website, Drovers.com, gives the impression that the show is an attempt by the meat industry at damage control. At http://www.drovers.com/news_editorial.asp?pgID=675&ed_id=6238 we read:
"NCBA and the American Meat Institute have worked with the producers of CNN’s 'Larry King Live' on tonight’s hour-long segment about beef safety and its role in the diet. In addition to beef industry representatives and proponents of beef’s health benefits, alternative viewpoints will be presented."

The "alternative viewpoint" will be presented by T. Colin Campbell, author of "The China Study," a huge study on diet which pointed to the significant health benefits of a plant based diet and the dangers of a diet high in animal protein. You can learn more about that study on line at www.TheChinaStudy.com

There is a poll on the Larry King Live site, asking us whether or not we eat meat. Please participate:

Most importantly, Larry King Live takes both questions, which can be read on air, and comments at:

Please make sure the animals get a voice. You can send a comment, or a question -- perhaps a somewhat rhetorical question. For example, with some guests on air pontificating about the need for meat in a healthy diet, those of you who have been doing fantastically for decades on a vegan diet, or who know a few details about world class vegan athletes, might feel inclined to put forward a question.

Yours and the animals',
