My fellow Californians,
While looking at national issues last week, I missed two terrific newspaper editorials supporting animal welfare bills waiting for our governor's signature. Thanks go to Jennifer Fearing for bring our attention to them.
The Los Angeles Times and San Diego Tribune editorial boards published similar columns in support of bills clamping down on dogfighting, puppy mills, and some institutionalized cruelty to farm animals.
You'll find the pieces on line at

You can comment right there on the web pages. Doing so lets the papers know that coverage of animal issues is of interest to and appreciated by readers. Comments are currently sparse so please take a moment to leave a comment with either or both of the papers -- you can weigh in on the issues or just thank the editors for their support.
You can also use the columns as jump off points for letters to the editor on any animal cruelty issues, so why not take that opportunity to speak up for the animals?
The Los Angeles Times takes letters at letters@latimes.com
The San Diego Union Tribune takes letters at letters@uniontrib.com
Always include your full name, address, and daytime phone number when sending a letter to the editor. Remember that shorter letters are more likely to be published.
Yours and the animals',
