Yesterday, Tuesday August 12, the Going Green segment on Washington DC's NBC affiliate covered my visit to Poplar Springs animal sanctuary, which was a precursor to the Thanking the Monkey event there this coming Monday evening (check out www.ThankingtheMonkey.com/events.php and please tell your DC friends). It is a sweet piece, which focuses on the beautiful animals and wonderful sanctuary. Because it was a green segment, I spoke a fair bit about the link between the livestock industry and global warming, but I am delighted to say that the reporter, Wendy Rieger, was thoroughly moved by the farm and the animals and edited the piece to focus on the way humans treat animals.
You can watch the segment on line at http://www.nbc4.com/goinggreen/17171247/detail.html
You can rate the story on that page, and I hope in honor of Norman and Opal who you'll meet in the story, or at the farm on Monday, you will take just a moment to give it a high rating.
You can also comment on that page. The first posted comment suggested that people interested in animal issues have nothing useful to do with their time, so it would be good to totally turn that message tide!
Finally, please let the reporter, Wendy Rieger, know how much we appreciate her Going Green segment and sensitive look at animal issues. Positive feedback for animal friendly coverage encourages more of it. You can send her a quick note at wendy.rieger@nbcuni.com
The piece is available to all NBC affiliates so you might see it on your local channel. Please let me know if you do -- and please thank your station.
Yours and the animals',
Karen Dawn
