It will be in the papers tomorrow, but I had to share the good news that is already on the Anchorage Daily News website, today, September 13, headed, "Zoo Board Chooses California Sanctuary for Maggie." The article tells us:
Maggie the elephant, the subject of intense debate this summer, will be heading to the Performing Animal Welfare Society sanctuary in San Andreas, Calif., the Alaska Zoo Board announced Thursday.
"Zoo officials said an agreement should be finalized within two weeks and the African elephant will be on her way south before winter if things work out.
"PAWS recently offered to pay for Maggies relocation costs during a high-profile visit to the zoo by TV personality Bob Barker.
"The announcement comes after mounting criticism of the zoo that it was dragging its feet in getting Maggie to a warmer climate."

Please do! It is important that the media see that animal issues grab the public's attention.
